Common Struggles

Depression

In order for a diagnosis of a major depressive disorder (MDD) to occur, an individual must present five of the symptoms below, for at least two weeks, and either a depressed mood or loss of interest and pleasure must be one of the five in the diagnostic criteria. The following is a list of potential symptoms:
- sad, depressed mood, most of the day, almost daily
- loss of interest and pleasure in activities
- sleeping difficulties
- shift in activity level, becoming lethargic or agitated
- loss or increase in appetite and weight
- decrease in energy, with significant fatigue
- complaining or difficulty concentrating
- suicidal thoughts (Davison et al., 2010)

If you feel you have the above symptoms, know that you are not alone and there are ways to overcome depression. Please see your doctor and/or a registered therapist.

Anxiety

Most individuals will experience anxiety at some point in their lives; for some, this anxiety can impact their daily living and this should not be left untreated. There are various types of anxiety, but some of the common signs of generalized anxiety are:

- excessive anxiety and worry

- fatigue

- increase aches and muscle soreness

- impaired concentration

- irritability

- difficulty sleeping

- restlessness


If you are experiencing these symptoms regularly, I would recommend seeing your doctor and/or therapist to provide you with some tools to get control over your anxiety.
